Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Equipment Maintenance Technician to join our team, focusing on the preventive maintenance, repair, and emergency servicing of galley food service and related equipment for the Naval Construction Battalion Center Detachment (NCBCDET) Chesapeake. The technician will be responsible for ensuring all equipment is fully operational and maintained according to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) specifications, supporting the galley's continuous food service operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform regular preventive maintenance on galley food service equipment according to OEM specifications, ensuring all equipment is operational within Navy standards.
- Repairs: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment as needed, ensuring that all repairs are done efficiently and in compliance with OEM guidelines. Provide detailed repair quotes and obtain necessary approvals before proceeding with major repairs.
- Emergency Repairs: Respond to emergency repair requests within 24 hours, coordinating with the Government Technical Point of Contact (GTPOC) to resolve issues promptly, especially in mission-critical scenarios.
- Sanitation: Clean and sanitize all equipment surfaces not typically accessible by food handlers during routine maintenance, adhering to Naval Preventive Medicine standards.
- Non-Scheduled Maintenance: Provide unscheduled maintenance services as required to maintain equipment functionality, responding to service calls within a 12-hour period.
- Parts Management: Ensure all repairs and maintenance are performed using OEM-specified parts and materials. Collaborate with the GTPOC to manage the procurement of parts and components.
- Compliance and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and inspection activities. Provide written reports to the GTPOC for preventive maintenance, repairs, non-scheduled maintenance, and emergency services within two business days of task completion.
- Coordination: Work closely with the GTPOC to schedule services and coordinate base access. Ensure all activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly regarding the disposal of hazardous waste.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in equipment maintenance, with specific experience in food service equipment preferred.
- Certification or qualification in operating, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of galley food service equipment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with experience in OEM-compliant maintenance practices.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Familiarity with Navy standards for equipment maintenance and sanitation procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in various environments.
- Ability to work within a 100-mile radius or 2.5-hour drive from Chesapeake, VA.
Working Conditions:
- Work may involve exposure to loud noise, hazardous materials, and varying temperatures.
- Requires availability for emergency services from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm, seven days a week, including holidays.
